As a dedicated member of the dog rescue/foster community in my hometown, this is one of the main reasons dogs end up in shelters: overbreeding and owner abandonment. 21. As someone who took on responsibility of an entire colony of feral cats as a result of ONE stray female, the message to always always always spay/neuter pets CANNOT be said enough. All it took was one escaped pet to have two daughters who then also had litters and now you have an explosion of wild-born cats who are completely unadoptable and would be put to sleep if I took them to the shelter.
