A volcano has erupted on the Spanish Canary Island of La Palma, sparking unfounded fears that a so-called mega-tsunami could be headed for the East Coast of the United States.
The Cumbre Vieja volcano began erupting at around 3.12pm local time (10:12 a.m. EDT) on Sunday, according to officials. That forced the evacuation of some 5,000 people from their homes in villages in the area, the president of the Canary Islands, Angel Victor Torres, told a news conference on Sunday.

guys no one panic, scientists say its not really possible for a mega tsunami to happen BUT it can cause a regular tsunami or maybe not even any tsunamis at all. Normally it’ll only break into pieces and just fall into the ocean, Dont panic. Most of this tsunami stuff isnt expected, people are just trying to make it look bad and stress others, but it can be a little too bad since it’s a supervolcano and they cause tons of destruction, it doesnt prove the fact that a tsunami can go throughout the atlantic, our ocean doesnt have a big water level and if it does, evacuate florida because its normally flat, other than that we would be fine, as long as youre over 200 or more miles away from shore. Dont worry at all, it wont be expected ! 🙂

According to scientific studies over the past 21 years there is a very remote chance of the volcano triggering a massive landslide into the Atlantic Ocean that might possibly then cause a tsunami that might possibly effect the East Coasts of North and South America and perhaps, to a lesser extent the Western coasts of Africa and Europe. So it is a very, very, very slight possibility. Not something to worry about but worth keeping an eye on while the volcano remains active. The governments of all nations the could possible be effected by this uncertain and unlikely eventuality are surely monitoring the situation, as is the media. The Americas would have hours of warning and Europe sufficient warning so there should no panic.
