La Palma: Drones record lava rushing to swift shore and thousands of people being evacuated

Lava has consumed everything in the volcano’s path – homes, cars and buildings are gone. Those tasked with moving the evacuees to safety are full of empathy. They know many will not have a home to come back to.

The rumbling of Cumbre Vieja is deceptive. To the untrained ear, it sounds like thunder, but locals who remember the last eruption 50 years ago know better.

The sound and smell of the bubbling volcano is a constant presence in La Palma, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. Its dense ash fills the air and is now threatening air travel.

  1. I am very sorry these people lost their homes, cars, and community but did anyone tell them that in the future the volcano was going to throw up and spew lava ash and toxic fumes it is considered the devil throat.

  6. Yes it’s sad
But to build a home beside a volcano is stupid
I’m sorry for everyone’s loose but get with it world
To build next to volcanos, come on what did you think would happen when it erupted again
Again sorry for all your looses
    Move to safer place
    Just my thoughts

  7. Soros’ Open Society organisations didn’t come up to help. They were very busy helping illegal narco-migrants to break the border in Spain, Canary Islands

  8. The eruption is beautiful, but with very tragic and sad consequences for those living around it. A person is capable of feeling both sentiments to be true. One does not exclude the other. I can admire the fierce beauty of nature, while at the same time also feeling great sympathy for those who are victims of it.
I don't like this idea that because I find the volcano beautiful I am not sympathetic or somehow unfeeling to those who have lost their homes due the eruption. I feel like I am being guilt tripped in some way. That there is only one "right" way to feel emotionally about this eruption.

  11. 🌋A volcano is spectacular to watch! 🌋 How can it not be!?
    Naturally, if you live nearby,
the only thing you're going to be thinking about, is how not to be in its pathway as it erupts!
    A no brainer.
God's 🌎 is spectacular, in all its life forms. Side note:
God originated 'earth day,' when He made the 🌍 !!! Get over yourself, man, and bow down to our Mighty and Awesome, and Thrilling God, who hangs the 🌍
