Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap

Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap
Spread The Viralist

Visually luscious and drenched with the big beats of classic cuts and freestyle rhyming by some of the masters of the music, SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: THE ART OF RAP is a performance documentary about the runaway juggernaut that is Hip-Hop. At the wheel of this unstoppable beast is Ice-T, who takes us on a personal journey into the asphalt roots of the music that saved his life. This film is not about stardom, bling, or beef; it’s about the craft and skill – what goes on inside the minds and erupts from the lips of rap legends. Ice-T travels from coast to coast, engaging intimately with the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, Eminem, Nas, Mos Def, Kanye West, Chuck D, KRS-One, Snoop Dogg, Run-DMC, and Ice Cube. The film features original rapping and some classic never heard before a cappellas from the mouths of the creators. What emerges is a mighty soul tribute to the original American art form that brought poetry to a new generation.

  1. Rap is for the slickest storytellers with thick skin.
Who give you the truth of the streets with the pen
Sometimes it be a free, expressed right there and then
but, don't doubt that every word carries some truth in them.
Metaphors or not rock your socks
So carry extra pairs don't sweat em' cuz I'll funk for ya
Leave em' with a piece of me like a deadbeat father. I'm gone

    XD I know. It's bad.

  2. Now THIS is a very informative and factual documentary. I am so happy I was around during this time! Still spinning tracks from 80’s to 2000’s. Period!! Better disinfect and lyrics then. Period!!! THAT’S MY OPINION!!!!

  4. Remember back in the day watching this on DVD ice t basically had all these guys in his phone already no other genre of music has that level of camaraderie and hate for each other at the same time they really don't understand this family.

  5. Power it starts with P like p****. She knows she's got it she doesn't worry does she? Spending your cash, leaving you in the trash. Before your little mind knows it they're gone in a dash. They got it. They know it. That's why they show it. The power of sex if man could overthrow it, he'd be king in a day, but no way, we get rich and hard and give it away.
We're weak and as we speak the girls are Hawkin. Sizing me up right now while I'm talkin. You gotta have control if you want the gold. I don't wanna be alone like Stallone, so I keep my mind thinking about the green and stop dwelling on the in-between. I GOT THE POWER. ICE-T 1988.

  7. As an OG and product of the South Bronx, I can appreciate this documentary on the 'Art of Rap', there is no question that many of these young brothers are lyrical geniuses. But I have to keep it real, the negativity associated with this genre is overwhelming. When I first experienced this phenomenon it was about partying and ego tripping. Club 371 in the South Bronx was the place to be and DJ Hollywood was the man. We don't need to glamorize gangster rap. It's detrimental to our communities. I'll appreciate the Thugs, Crips & Bloods when they elevate their consciousness and 'represent' like the Black Panther Party did in the late 60's. To emulate that lifestyle after you've made millions in the game and then live in an Ivory Tower (away from the hood) is disingenuous. Let's not spoil a good thing!

  8. Wow, so violent and foul mouthed. The N word used very often. Crime and guns and killing is glorified. Gangs and drugs are glorified. Motown and soul was never like that. Using the F word is common. The hood is important to this.

  9. Aaahhh man the feeling of growing up in the 80s is a feeling that YOU HAD 2 HAVE BEEN THERE 2 BE ABLE TO SOAK IT IN 2 EMBRACE IT‼️‼️‼️‼️
HipHop was spoken word 4 our souls see music back then was more than just β€œMUSIC” it was storytelling to the 10th powerπŸ’ͺπŸΎπŸ™ŒπŸΎπŸ’ͺ🏾it was the type of storytelling were you could close your
