Fukushima: The nuclear disaster that shook the world – BBC News

Spread The Viralist

On March 11th 2011, Japan’s most powerful earthquake on record triggered a tsunami, which then caused a meltdown at a nuclear power plant.
It wiped entire towns off the map and forced Fukushima’s residents from their homes as radiation leaked from the plant. The government estimates the disaster could cost nearly $200bn, and the clean-up may take until 2051.
Today the prefecture of Fukushima is still dealing with the aftermath of the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. What happened that day, and what was it like for the people who lived through it?
The BBC’s Tui McLean explains how the triple disaster unfolded.

  1. China: “ should I release some nuclear as well.”
The rest of the world: Here comes the WW3 baby
Japan: “ time to make Attack on titan happen IRL”
The rest of the world: “ CHINA”

  2. All of the reactors lost power and released radioactive particles in the environment.
ALL TOGETHER THERE WAS 14 REACTORS THAT RELEASED RADIATION.
    THREE BLEW UP!
    And melted down.
    That's far worse than Chernobyl!
Each was to be more powerful than Chernobyl too.
Trees around the world dying after the event.
EACH ACCIDENT AND RELEASE ADDS TO THE RADIATION DANGERS.

  3. The lies of nobody died from radiation is inexcusable.
The emergency doctors said a room of 100 people or more suffered from radiation poisoning. And there was nothing they could do for them.

  4. Everything is a matter of choice. Japan, the leading war criminal of World War II, chose not to apologize to the war victims and chose not to reflect. During the war, Japan slaughtered numerous innocent people, destroyed their language and culture, and looted artifacts. Until now, Japan has been officially using the Rising Sun Flag, which was used during the war, and it has not changed from the state of war criminals, claiming that other countries' territories belong to Japan. Soon, Japan will see the consequences of that choice. It was also chosen by Japan, so it should be accepted. As a result of a terrible choice…

  5. Germany and Japan are the same war criminal countries, but the paths they chose were very different. Unlike Japan, which distorts and turns away, Germany has chosen the path of acknowledging and reflecting on its past mistakes.

There are places all over Germany to record and commemorate the victims. A day of remembrance of the victims was also designated. So far, the government has compensated the victims about 106 trillion won, directly or indirectly. However, there are still many people who think it is not enough.

Japan, the same war criminal country, took a different path.

Recently, they have been moving beyond denying responsibility and trying to distort history altogether. While avoiding apologies and reparations from the past, it appears that they are isolated from the whole of Asia.
'What actually happened can be repeated at any time.'
This is why Germany constantly records and reflects. This is why Japan should see and learn from Germany.

  6. Are you insane? 10 years later
Look at where we're at today..do you see ALL the DEATH'S Fukushima extinction event has caused?! Don't you realize that we're also breathing eating and drinking nuclear fallout right now this very minute..you idiots!
It's too late for you to wake up..
You're going to watch your family, friends and even your pets die! You're going to get one of the 1800 major illnesses before cancer shows up! You will need oxygen to breathe since the ocean is completely dead..just tip we get 60-70% of our oxygen from the OCEAN morons..how are you gonna live without insects they're all dead and dying right before your eyes! You are going to witness the world's biggest EXTINCTION EVENT IN ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY AND STILL YOU'RE STILL NOT FIGHTING FOR WHAT'S RIGHT!
Now I know how Noah felt when it started to rain..

  7. people have absolutely no interest in Fukushima. Only neighboring countries know the truth. Fukushima's nuclear power plant has already exploded and is still emitting radioactive material. Chernobyl is covered with concrete, but Fukushima is not even trying. They pile up the contaminated soil roughly on black plastic and leave it as it is. There are even pictures of people doing farming next to the plastic pile of contaminated soil. This is why I don't trust Fukushima food, and some time ago, radioactivity was detected in Fukushima honey. Sometimes these contaminated soils are even lost in floods. Now Japan is about to dump Fukushima coolant into the Pacific Ocean. Instead of taking the safer way, they use the cheaper way. They lie that they are safe compared to other countries' nuclear power plant coolant, but the coolant used in the exploded nuclear power plant is, of course, dangerous. It contains substances that should not be present and has been discussed even in the Japanese parliament, but is completely ignored. They advertise that the IAEA guarantees safety, but the IAEA is not an environmental organization, but an organization that represents the interests of the nuclear power business. Of course, they only talk positively. Regarding the risk, environmental groups are correct, and environmental groups are opposed to the discharge of polluted water. A lot of people don't care because they're far away, but because radiation is also accumulated by the food chain, fish in the Pacific are at risk.

  8. This program was so shallow I wonder what's the point? No mention of where the clouds of fallout landed? What are the levels of contamination at locations like napa valley? The pacific ocean, what has ten years of dumping radio active radiation done to it? How much is still being dumped?

  10. I hope we can build many small nuclear plants that are decent distances from large populations, and I hope we can have good enough regulations and honest enough people to warn and heed about failing components of nuclear plants. It’s so frustrating, nuclear energy is the best possible environmentally friendly primary power source, but due to crony governments, companies, and employees we have been scared away from nuclear energy.

  11. The weirdest & nationalistic campaign they do – Let's cheer for Fukushima by eating Fukushima food. **None of the western broadcastings inform that the Japanese government's trying to serve food from Fukushima to the Olympic athletes.

  12. US sent aid to Japan for its Great earthquake then 18 years later in 1941 Japenise navy paid back with attack on Pearl Harbor. Japenise government and its people also blamed on Korean for the earthquake and killed 6000 local Koreans with false accusations. Japan is China with China spreading COVID and Japan spreading Fukushima radioactive water into Pacific.

  13. makes no sense…..was there a huge stockpile of URANIUM in Japan to fuel nuke plants, as opposed to Oil or gas? It still had to come from foreign sources.

  14. All of these idiots in comments has balls to say something when Japan has the highest safe water ranking for drinking out of a fountain cause we are purifying it and cleaning it dumbassss use your brainnnnnn

  15. Unfortunately, genocidal thermonuclear WW3 is not too far away, please follow the latest news at "Countdown World News" page of RKK Book website. At the website you can purchase the book which tells about the kind of events which are heading our way if greed and ego-centrism in the world affairs continue their reign. Humankind has been playing with nuclear fire since 1945, and the bottom line is, if we continue doing so, this fire will consume us one day. Now is the time to turn to God-given wisdom and make the only right step as it might be too late to do so tomorrow. We have responsibility to take a good care of our children and ensure they have a future.
