Disastrous floods in western Germany – The Eifel disaster | DW Documentary

Spread The Viralist

It’s the morning after the deadly flood in the small village of Schuld on the river Ahr. The extent of the natural disaster is gradually becoming clear.

Schuld has a 1000-year history and has survived several wars. But now, it has been stricken by destructive weather. On the night into July 15, following heavy downpours, the river swelled and nearly swept the village away, wreaking havoc on everything that stood in its path. Normally, the Ahr is barely a meter deep as it passes through Schuld. It swelled to a monstrous depth of almost eight meters. Residents barely had time to react.

  1. Notice no matter what country it is, when it is, or what kind of natural disaster it is the "officials, politicians, heads of state etc.
never never never has the disaster ever effected THEIR personal homes.

  2. Это война против всего человечества, любые способы: бактерологическая , климатическая, волновая война… На выживаемость, люди объединяйтесь.

  3. My heart goes out to the people in Germany who have been impacted by this disaster. I do really hope people will wake up to the fact that incidents like this will become more frequent and common place unless we tackle climate change. The biggest greenhouse gas emittor companies need to be stopped before its too late and more people lose their lives. We have already been warned about extreme weather conditions becoming more prevalent. China, Belgium, california and many other areas around the world are experiencing extreme weather. We must save this planet, this is the most pressing issue for everyone now, whatever your political views. We have allowed profit to preceed human life and that has to stop. We can't remain in denial about what is happening any longer. DW has educated me so much with their videos about the affects of climate change and climate refugees. It could be so easy to ignore and carry on with life, treating all of this as isolated incidents but they are not.

  4. I wish you acceptance and peace and stamina and hope and love and recovery. Please know hundreds of thousands of people are thinking of our German friends.

  5. My community had the worst flood ever in2008. We lost about 6500 homes and businesses. It was terrible butterflies 4years later we are almost back to pre flood. Times
Then last year we were hit with a derecho, an inland hurricane. We have
Been so blessed to nothave loss of life. In both situations people evacuate at first warnings.

  6. All NATO countries pay's 1.6% from the national GDP to the army, in this situations they need to show up and help the people, otherwise they are a waste of money. Second thing, the state should refund the damage for dose without a home insurance.

  7. LOVE one another …….feed the poor and homeless……Jesus Christ is the king …….he is kind and fair……..and he does what’s RIGHT on EARTH

  8. What I’ve learnt is that we Aussies are far more resilient when it comes to disasters. The Germans are whiners and complain far too much, they’ll never recover if they think they’re above catastrophic events

  9. Lesson to learn ….. too much interpretation in the name of development there by causing harm to all other living species and nature itself is not at all spiritually good. Mother Nature will retreat vigorously.
