Conservation Team Rescues Young Male Lion Trapped in Snare
A group of conservationists and veterinarians working with Aware Trust Zimbabwe rescued a male lion from a snare in Kariba township, northern Zimbabwe.
According to a Facebook post describing the operation, the lion was trapped in a heavily confined gorge with thick vegetation on all sides. After tranquilizing the animal, the conservationists began trying to remove the snare and quickly garnered an excited crowd of onlookers.
“I need to add that the reason we could not keep this young lion under anesthetic was due to the over-stimulation created by the entire scene. Sadly this was out of our control and everything was done to try and limit the stress level of the situation for this poor animal,” the post accompanying the video reads.
Eventually, Aware Trust Zimbabwe members transported the lion to a vehicle, fighting off massive crowds that kept trying to touch the lion. They were able to complete surgery and successfully release the lion into the wild afterwards.
