Yong Tau Foo – Tofu and Fish Balls in Singapore (永祥兴豆腐)

Yong Tau Foo - Tofu and Fish Balls in Singapore (永祥兴豆腐)
Spread The Viralist

Yong tau foo is a popular Chinese Singaporean dish of mixed tofu and fish cakes, and in this video I tried it from a place called Yong Xiang Xing Tou Foo (永祥兴豆腐).

Similar to Chinatown Complex Food Centre in Singapore is People’s Park Food Centre, located just across the street in Singapore’s Chinatown. The food court hawker center is also home to a huge selection of different foods, and lots to choose from. But among the selection is one noticeable stall called Yong Xiang Xing Tou Foo, that is famous for serving an old fashioned style of yong tau foo. As soon as they open, they have an immediate long line of loyal customers who are waiting in line for their afternoon bowl.

I joined the line, and it didn’t take long to get my bowl of Singapore style yong tau foo, the line moves quickly because there are no options for what to order, you just have a choice of how many bowls you want to order. I just got a single bowl and after making my order, we went to go sit down and they delivered our bowl to us.

Yong Xiang Xing Tou Foo serves a famous Singapore Chinese dish called yong tau foo, which is a dish made up of different pieces of tofu and fish cake or fish meatballs. Sometimes it can be dry and served with noodles on the side, but this one was served in a light clear soup. There were a mixed variety of handmade and fresh tasting tofu and meatballs in the soup. It was good, but a bit plain, but everything taste quite good quality. Overall, I thought the bowl of yong tau foo made a good afternoon snack in Singapore.

  1. Sorry for coming in late, but after reading through the earlier comments I felt that I have to add my 2 cents.
Yong Tau Fu is not a food dish that brings excitement or even anticipation to the typical Singaporean that enjoys it: it’s just a comfort and convenient food. You could eat as much or as little, you could order it as a side dish to go with another main course. You can request it dry or in soup. You can have it straight or add noodles. Some Yong Tau Fu stalls offer a much wider assortment of tofu/fish paste creations and even include pork ‘blood tofu’(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_as_food)
So, if Mark had made his trademark ‘orgasmic’ head-tilt expression when eating Yong Tau Fu, I’d say he was faking it.

BTW, I love YTF in all it’s iteration, but the Hakka type is the one to rave about?

  2. Recommending Yong Tau Foo soup to him is definitely a waste of time. He stays in Thailand probably and wif palates that goes for heavy flavour, most food in SG would be too bland for him except those in "Little India".

Howto appreciate YTF when he doesn't know what he's eating. I bet many locals can't tell the differences btwn real n imitation fish balls.

I believe that people queue apparently knew what they"re getting is either authentic fish stuffing or fresh ingredients."

  3. The reviewer should at least know what he is eating. He keeps on saying he doesn't know.. he thinks the fish ball is tofu.. some jellies there.. lol just what are we watching here anyway, the reaction of a clueless person from a certain country? All he said was it's hot. Lol soup is obviously hot.

  4. 5. Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu:
32 New Market Rd, People’s Park Complex Food Centre, #01-1084, Singapore 050032
I heard from my Friend. They have been around for 3 generations.

  6. honestly the only reason why this yong tau foo is good is because the food is fresh. many yong tau foo stalls in singapore keep their tofu overnight and hence does develop a more mushy and even sour turned bad taste to it. you should try the one at beach road, just opposite golden mile complex! that yong tau foo is pretty good too in my opinion!

  7. I want you to try the Halohalo in the Philippines Mark, It's the Best…In Manila, you can find them in the streets, but better check a clean place where to have it..I hope you can visit the Philippines again…I love your show.

  8. The reason there is sweet tinge to the soup is because it contains a secret secret ingredient which all chinese broths/soups have. It's called….M.S.G. 🙂

  9. So glad that you have tried this….this Yong tau Foo is the most authentic and best in Singapore. It has got a history of almost 50-60 years…

  10. The face he makes when every bite he takes but his describing of the food that he take is awesome and makes me mouth watering! 🙂 good job keep it up mark!
