  1. The rendering of WebM + Alpha is currently not GPU accelerated. Because of that having videos with alpha have limited utility. If at all possible, please look into this. Maybe it is possible with the new requestAnimationFrame on the video object, to get an imageBitmap object of the current frame, so we could blast this into a canvas. It's probably more costly then having the video with alpha sit natively in the render pipeline, but i think it would still be a lot better then the current behavior.
