Guildbrook Farm is an off grid, modern homestead located in the foothills of Appalachia. We take you along on our journey to become more self reliant by growing an organic garden, raising heritage breed chickens and pigs, improve our skills in canning and food preservation, building off the grid renewable energy systems, prepping for events such as natural disasters, and learning old time skills. Join us as we build an off-grid cabin and homestead from raw land while remaining debt-free. Follow our successes and failures as we learn to live a more simple, sustainable lifestyle.

  1. Jeremy & Jaime, thanks for the video and for sharing the journey. The progress is great. Jamie, the saw skills are "Awesome"!
Thanks guys, blessings to you all.

  2. Around the 7:30 mark, getting to watch the timelapse of you working with the sky in the background – it definitely paints a nice picture of the beautiful sunrise/sunsets in your future home!!

  3. after all that blocking, yall deserve a few beers. Tedious but has to be done. Looking good. Her saw table worked great and wow, if that is all the waste, yall did great.

  4. I would have not used solid blocking since it stops you from running wires in the ceiling in the future. You can run a fish tape through cross bracing if you need to.

  5. To much ladder work. You could could put down the first row of plywood then you have a runway to work from above. Your doing great work it's just that your doing it the hard way. Feel free to ask me anything I have been building houses for 30 years. ICF buildings, stick frame, panel homes, pole barns, metal frames, I keep my job because I get shit done.

  6. I'm amazed your code allows for joist hangers. In Alberta we had to have the joists on top of a header to put them in compression instead of shear of nails. It's too bad, I would love to have the header hidden in the garage instead of sticking down an extra 10".

  7. If you are going to toe nail all the blocking instead of end grain nailing, why do you offset every other block? In the future plumb down at each end and snap a line across the bottoms of the joists and save yourself all the fiddling with the square on each board.

  8. Lol!! seeing Jeremy poking his head up in fast motion reminded me of the game whack a mole. Jaime I was right there with you! I gasped when Ilaria was backing up!!! Looking good guys!

  9. If I see anyone on a job without a tool belt they get roasted hard core. My friends dad always told us "if your aint wearing a tool belt, you ain't getting paid"

  10. Just asking. Why didn't you all use TJI's for your floor joist's. Being a artist's myself. You can use the yellow, blue and red. And white for your base. With these three colors you can make any color in the rainbow. Plus it save's a lot of money.
