Twiggy was near death when she was rescued by Dire Straits Companion Animal Rescue. She was severely emaciated, weighing less than four pounds, and had lost all of her coat due to malnutrition. Twiggy had badly ulcerated corneas and cataracts in both eyes and was unable to see. We soon learned that Twiggy was diabetic and ketotic. She was also anemic and had a heart murmur. Despite her condition, Twiggy was not ready to give up!
As Twiggy’s diabetes was brought under control, she began to slowly gain weight. When she was healthy enough, she was spayed and had both mammary chains removed due to multiple tumors. Thankfully, the tumors were benign. Twiggy also had a much needed dental, and had eight teeth removed.

  1. Dont understand why the dogs cataract surgery cost $5000. Humans can have cataract surgery for much cheaper than that. Vets make a fortune off of the misfortune of these animals.

  17. Jesus, this poor baby. She was just skin and bones, so frail it didn't look like she would make it. She's beautiful and deserves a happy life after all she endured. Animals deserve love and compassion.

You mean skin and bones but ether way why twiggy for a name I must admit it's interesting to say the least but also insulting to the dog themselves even if they looked like a bunch of twigs put together I will call our lovable baby sunshine because the baby brightened up my day by seeing such a cutie of a pooch?I hope and pray that they make it alive and well and recovery goes well enough to find a special loving home and true love and respect for them always??????
