The veteran surgeon isn’t known for his small talk, but he clearly lets his patients know what they’re facing, without diminishing their humanity.
Oftentimes, Dr. Now offers his patients a reality check on the conditions related to obesity. According to a journal published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, complications can include high blood pressure, type II diabetes, sleep apnea, stroke, heart disease, depression, cancer, arthritis, and gout.

I wouldn't call James K tragic. He was kicked off he program because he wasn't following Dr Now's diet and was wasting people's time and resources by taking advantage of the medical system.
