CASHIERS, N.C. — Adoptions began Thursday for the animals rescued last month from a Rutherford County breeding operation.

The Cashiers – Highlands Humane Society held an adoption lottery for five dogs and one cat. More than 50 people applied to take care of the six animals.

There will be another adoption lottery held on Nov. 13 for five more puppies. The Humane Society says they are still accepting adoption applications for that event, and they also have more than 100 other adoptable cats and dogs available at the shelter.
