Hampton Court Palace CCTV ghost "Skeletor"

Spread The Viralist

On three consecutive days in winter 2003, Hampton Court Palace security staff were called to close one particular fire door near the palace’s Clock Court (now in the Baroque Story exhibition).

On the first day, CCTV footage showed the doors flying wide open with great force but there was nothing to reveal why. On the second day, the same thing happened but this time a ghostly-looking figure in period dress suddenly appeared on the screen and closed the doors. The doors opened again on the third day but there was no further sign of the ghostly doorkeeper.

It wasn’t just security staff who thought they were seeing things. A visitor wrote in the palace’s visitor book on the second day that she too thought she had seen a ghost in that area.

This CCTV footage of the figure caught the attention of the world’s media, with reports in newspapers and on TV and radio as far a field as India, Australia and Peru. This is where the nickname “Skeletor” came from.

  1. How would a ghost be able to pull on them bars with his weak ghostly hands to close those doors. The only spirits I believe in is my Pappy’s white lightnin!

  2. Ive been to those doors. On day 1 it was caught on CCTV at 11am but no one saw the ghost. On day 2 at 11am it happened again and some people wrote in the guest books they didnt like the man dressed in grey.On day 3 there was no ghost but the doors kept on banging viciously and when the guards got there the doors had fallen off!!???

  3. The doors fly open , then the figure walk up to them, u can see it approach through the top panel of glass. Surely he or she was too far back to have opened them with their hands ?

  4. I remember when this came out. It looks different now. Probably doctored, like all reality, all history is these days. This is CLEARLY a human man; the footage from 2003 was CLEARLY not.

  5. This is someone who works there. They must because somehow a Tudor ghost works out the fire door will only shut if you put one door closed first. This video prob made them more money because of ghost hunts. Why refute it. I wouldn't.

  6. Why dont they show the next 4 minutes, when she sparks up a fag and talks on her mobile. Like ghosts know how to operate fire exit bar doors, and have shadows..

  7. Anyone who is sceptical of this, has no knowlege of all the relevant facts at the time the above happened. Without such knowlege. it's far easier to be cynical.

  8. Having been at school in the Palace many, many years ago and been a regular visitor in the Palace at night back in the 60s, I've seen the ghost of Sybil Penn, like most of the people who've ever lived there. She was lurking in the dark – as was her wont – in the corner of Tennis Court Lane. I therefore find this footage very spooky, but I have to say, quite believable! It is a remarkably scary place at night. I remember once driving one of the Grace and Favour ladies home quite late and frightening myself so badly on my walk back round Fountain Court that I nearly brained myself against the wall!
