  1. This horrible event happened on my fifth birthday. It began my obsession with natural disasters. I can't imagine the terror that these people must have felt… and the fact that it took so many lives over such a large area. People in East Africa were killed when the distance tsunami hit almost 8 hours after the earthquake. The Earth is such a scary place.

  2. Oh my god that person surfing at the beginning must not have survived nor that person just standing on the beach! Why didn’t he run? I know he wouldn’t have outrun the wave but he didn’t even try that is so sad it breaks my heart all the people that died

  3. I still remember and recalled the day when my local Pastor's is mentioning about this horrific incident during Christmas. I feel the same pain with the bereaved family! Rest in Peace!!!

  4. Four thousand people died in my town. My dad felt our apartment shake at about it five in the morning. We live on a small island called Sri Lanka and travel home from our capital every Christmas. A road called the Galle road. It runs about 20m in parallel to the shore line. That Christmas we overslept and couldn’t leave on time. Best thing that happened to my family. We slept through it. Otherwise we’d have been on that road with no idea what had been coming for us. Back then people didn’t even know tsunamis existed.

  5. At exactly the same time my car had crashed into the front of another car on icey roads. Both ladies died in other car and I was hospitalised.
Someone mentioned the tsunami in hospital but it didn't register at the moment as my life was upside down.
