I was just wondering how he was cleared to start both engines when there's 3 engines on the DC-10? You guys have amazing graphics but alot of the information is incorrect. This goes for multiple episodes I've noticed now..fyi

Nonsense. I fully understand the meaning of v1. But commercial airline procedures and safety protocol is a constantly evolving science. Now, the pilots assumed they had an engine failure. No big deal. Passed v1 and continue takeoff with 2 able engines. But had there been a way for them to know what REALLY happened, the best move, though AGAINST current protocol, would have been to abort even after v1. Don't assume that the plane will hit the end of the runway at 170 knots. It would not have. Allowing for braking, spoiler deployment and reverse thrust, maybe she hits the end of the runway at 50, 60, 70 mph. Lots of lives would have been saved. Again. Commercial aviation safety is an evolving science. There are no absolutes.

I remember seeing the reports of it on all the news networks the day it happened,lots of ugly memories of this tragedy. I was 11 and got a very sick feeling hearing that everyone died onboard this flight and feeling so sad for those people, they just disappeared without being able to say goodbye.
That haunting image of that beautiful silver plane sideways used to give me nightmares when I was a little kid. Such a terrifying end to all. RIP

Inside the passenger section of flight 191 was a camera mounted on the front of the plane. So passengers were able to watch their upcoming demise.
It's irresponsible by McDonnel D. plane manufacturer not to have a systems analyzer program that alerts for "LOST LEFT ENGINE!" … Every car after 1996 has a CEL – Check Engine Light that inform of fault codes.
