Netflix Refuses To Remove Controversial Bird Box Disaster Footage

Spread The Viralist

Netflix’s post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box was its final hit of 2018, but now, the streamer has been hit with serious backlash over some footage featured in the flick.

Bird Box featured plenty of terrifying scenes, but the sequence that has sparked the most discussion wasn’t fictional it was footage from a real-life tragedy, and Netflix has refused to remove it from the film. It recently came to light that the film incorporated actual footage from a 2013 fiery train crash in the town of Lac-Mégantic in Quebec, Canada.

  1. Original thought – how many times have you seen the Twin Towers fall since it happened? I understand the 47 victims' families upset but you can't use someone else's issue to create your own label of censorship. I'm sure Pond 5 had to pay for that footage, so instead have that outrage be directed at whomever sold the footage to them. It's just like Mark-1 Plumbing. Google it if you don't know what I mean.

  2. If it was on the news and it’s public, I don’t see why it’s wrong to put it in the film. And it helps get an idea of the disasters and chaos happening in the film.q

  3. When I first saw this post I thought it would be about the suicides. But nope, it’s some Canadian people angry that a tragedy that happened 5 years before was shown on a tv screen in the movie for maybe a minute? Wow.

  4. People getting mad over little things. What are the Canadians getting out of this it getting removed get out of here people need to grow up and stop crying over everything

  5. As someone from there, its the worst train accident we ever had and it kills a lot of people. It destroyed a town, lifes, families and the environment. But, that being said, at least people will talk about it and maybe a accident like that won’t happen again (because it was a stupid human mistake that cause all of it). Anyways, hope everyone is having a great day ?

  6. That's unfortunate… but you know what? Get over it.. ignore it. You know what else is offensive? Family Guy. But you know, oh well… whatever. Lol

  7. I think its funny when he mentions the bird box challenge and hopes Netflix can "do better" when its not netflix that had to do better its the idiots doing dangerous things that need to "do better"

  8. I don't see using real news footage in a fictional move a problem. Its footage that is available to use and probably a lot cheaper than to film with actors and special effects for producing news footage for the film. For me using this helps sell the movie trying to make a fictional movie more believable.
Now for the Birdbox challenge that is so stupid for unintelligent people. People born blind or people who became blind learned overtime to deal with a disability! Some use seeing-eye dogs or a cane to be able to walk out in public or cross the street. This movie didn't tell the audiences at the end of the movie to try the Birdbox challenge or any other movie to do something so stupid. That is on unintelligent or just plain dumb people.

  9. Before, during, and after the moment where the footage is shown, the actresses were in no way belittling or disrespecting the footage or the people involved in the tragedy. Netflix was in no way making fun or a parody of such event. It is extremely sad that so many lives were lost in this accident, however, it’s in no way being ridiculed in the scene it was shown.
