Beautiful 48 hr Time-Lapse of 2016 Blizzard

Spread The Viralist

This 1 minute time-lapse video captures the 48 hour blizzard of winter storm Jonas that hit the east coast between January 22 and 24, 2016. The camera was set up on our front porch in northern Virginia, USA, and captured 1 frame every 30 seconds. I further compressed it down to 1 frame every 90 seconds to produce this video which culminates with the beautiful sunrise on Sunday morning. You can even see Venus rising in the east just before sunrise. The final measurement on the yardstick was 31 inches or 79 centimeters. It is very interesting to see how the snow compresses somewhat right before sunrise.

A short clip from this video was featured on Al Roker’s new show, Weather Hacks, which premiered on The Weather Channel (TWC) on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 10 pm EST.

  1. There’s something so magical about snow and winter, I love it. I wish I lived in a snowy country ? I’m from England and we get a bit of snow here but not much
