Yes, the real name of this restaurant is Cheap Cheap Restaurant, and it’s located just down the road from the main drag of Ao Nang – the touristy central of Krabi. There are a lot of restaurants in Ao Nang that cater to mostly touristy, both international restaurants and Thai restaurants.

Through some family contacts, we went to Cheap Cheap Restaurant, and I was quite impressed with the menu… they literally had almost everything, from every corner of Thailand on their menu – there must be hundreds of dishes to choose from. While they did have some popular touristy dishes like pad Thai, they also had some seriously good southern and even northern Thai dishes. Soon I found out that the chef at Cheap Cheap restaurant in Ao Nang was a former hotel chef, and knew how to cook just about every type of Thai dish.

We first began with a coconut to drink, which was incredibly sweet and refreshing. I don’t drink coconut too often, but I really enjoy them when I do. They are so fresh and hydrating and just naturally sweet.

The main dish I was most interested in trying was their version of pla sai tod kamin (ปลาทรายทอดขมิ้น), deep fried fish made with sand whiting fish, which are kind of small French fry sized fish, which are quite popular to eat in Krabi. The stack of fish came to our table extremely crispy, and topped with a mound of crispy turmeric and garlic, and served with a chili garlic lime sauce on the side. They were extremely delicious.

The other dishes we ordered at Cheap Cheap Restaurant in Krabi included, kai jeow (ไข่เจียว) – a Thai style omelet, soup neua (ซุปเนื้อ) – beef soup, gaeng som cha om kai (แกงส้มกุ้งชะอมไข่) – soup with climbing wattle omelet inside.

All the dishes we tried at Cheap Cheap Restaurant were excellent. I think it’s a good restaurant in Ao Nang to order a diverse range of good Thai food.

  4. if I will stay in bangkok how much budget should I have for 2 or 3 days visit including food and hotel and transpo? I plan to visit bangkok in June with my wife.

  5. Soooo disappointing! After a long walk in the heat to the restaurant, we were all looking forward to our meal. We ordered every dish you did and more…there were 5 of us. As you know, rice is most important when eating Thai food. You spoon all the delicious flavors onto it and savor the results of all the blended tastes. We asked for our rice 4 times and it never arrived until after all the dishes we ordered had been consumed.

  6. Hi Mark, family and I are eating at cheap cheap now but the owner wants everyone to know the name has changed! Its now “aroy-d seafood restaurant”. She said a lot of people don’t eat here because they don’t believe her when she says its the same 🙁

  8. Avoid Rice at every cost is Mark's motto.
Dear Mark Wien, please don't rice if you don't have any intention to eat them. Please don't waste rice.

  9. I love your videos and will always watch them but I have to say, the title is a little misleading. I do not consider $12US to be cheap in Thailand. Under 100 baht per meal is cheap.
