Patrick Barkham witnesses a family of lions that was rescued from a Romanian zoo being released into Lions Rock, an animal sanctuary in South Africa’s eastern province of Free State. The charity Four Paws rescued the lions from Onesti zoo, where they suffered malnutrition and were forced to share a small cage, with no grass and little sunlight.

  1. I thought it was going to be a happy feeling story, instead it was quite depressing. Thanks to the folks that rescued these animals and all those that donate to this wonderful cause.

  2. The monsters that inflicts this on these creatures, should be forced to live in the same conditions for the rest of their natural lives. An example should be made of these low lives.

  3. Nice, Romanians treat each other like they treat these lions. In that country, everyone hates themselves but bends over for foreigners. They love corruption, living in poverty as well.. no wonder their tourism has fallen, because its a disgusting place both socially and in the cities.

  4. Romania is still hell on Earth for many animals, including the horrendous treatment of their stray dogs….poisened, beaten to death, incinerated alive or left to starve in horrendous government run shelters. 4 Paws has done so much for so many suffering animals and they continually need monetary support to keep rescuing more. Please support them.
