Buried Alive – Avalanche accident caught on helmet camera

Spread The Viralist

This is the footage of me getting buried in an avalanche in Verbier, Switzerland on the 28th of february in 2011. My friends spotted and excavated me within five minutes even though I was buried at a depth of between 1.5-2 metres. Luckily I was wearing the right equipment and managed to create an air pocket in front of my mouth by holding my hands in front of my face when the avalanche stopped moving. And YES, we have proper shovels, the guy digging with a ski is just a random guy who happened to ski past after I got buried.

  1. когда лавина схватится за дерево, потому что, когда вы покрыты снегом, вы можете выкопать свой путь вверх

вдоль ствола дерева спасибо дереву, вы знаете, что будете копать, а не какое-то другое направление

  2. That felt like a long wait under all that cemented snow, helpless. I could not breathe and I am only watching this. Really amazing.

  3. Never ski off piste without a transceiver, probe and shovel. And know how to use them.

Try to keep skis and gloves on. Look to see if you can see a ski or pole to estimate where the buried person might be. Everybody turn transceivers to receive.

Send two people in at a time one leading, working across the slope, down and back again, the other tracking down the side. When close, get the second person in there from a different angle to try to narrow the search. Only use transceivers at first, then probes. If there are more people with you, they should be calling for help if possible. If a large group, some can, if they know the way, ski on to alert the authorities if you can't phone, but only if safe..

Others should stay and be readying shovels.

When you have found the buried person, bring in the diggers. Dig from below, creating a wide shelf (you might need a second person to clear what you dig out. Then dig in so that the snow doesn't keep collapsing in to the hole and re-burying the person in there.

Talk to them. Are they conscious? Find the head and make sure they can breathe. Check for broken bones. If they are cold, roll them on to rucksacks to insulate them.

If you have multiple burials, try to get to their transceiver to turn it to receive so others can be found more easily.
