When I was in Jakarta, one afternoon Ying and I went to a restaurant called Lapo Ni Tondongta Senayan that specializes in serving Batak food from Sumatra. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but we walked inside the restaurant to find a live music band, and a nice spacious restaurant.

One of the most popularly famous Batak dishes is babi panggang, which is grilled pork, so we got one plate of that. The pork was salty and had an incredible grilled flavor to it. Along with rice and some of the different sambal chili sauces, it was delicious. Another famous Batak dish is saksang, which is a type of blood stew. The blood stew was made with pork, and it was extremely tender and delicious. Finally, I ordered a dish called daun ubi tumbuk, which I didn’t know what it was at first, but after doing some research I found out it was pounded cassava leaves. The vegetable dish was probably my favorite of the entire meal. It was like pureed cassava leaves.

For good Batak food in Jakarta, Lapo Ni Tondongta Senayan is a great restaurant to check out.

  1. OMG!! I know this is kinda late comment and I just discovered this "batak food" on ur chanel lol 😛

I used to lived & worked few blocks from this place and this one is my to go to eat as well, unfortunately last year when I came visit to JKT I didn't see this place anymore or maybe they relocated… oh btw the "green creamy sambal " is SAMBAL ANDALIMAN which has Seczhuan pepper in it, a little bit of ginger torch & roastedcandle nuts and something else :)candle nuts makes it creamy and enhance the "rich" flavor to it, the small chopped pork stew actually didn't have "much blood" in it 🙂 it's actually used just to make the "color" darker and blackish and maybe a little bit "umami" taste.. and the 'babi panggang" I don't think they put black pepper in it 🙂

  2. Almost all Batak peoples very love singing ?. They've many famous pop singers and bands in Indonesia since 60's era like Panjaitan Brothers, Eddy Silitonga, Charles Hutagalung. till now like Judika Sitohang and others

Ini species 8rg yg tk ngerti bersih, ttata santun, liar, sok baik sj. Paling banter calo sj propesinya. Satu baju sj utk 1 minggu tk pernah ganti, sok pinter, omong banyak, ngamen ,tato, buka baju dikerameian.skrng rpanya sdh ada perubahan.pinter masak, calo, spe mobil. Knpa bnyk hijrah jakarta ; di negrinya sumber protein sdh kurang. Populasi celeng, kucing, tikus sdh kurang. Tp ada baiknya. Disitu ada batak, tikus, anjing, babi mesti berkurang.dia lbh pinter memasaknya drpd si meong sdr2. Tengok di terminal amplas ! Toiletnya mengerikan, calonya kayak anjing kelaparan.
