The Rise of Fentanyl: Drug Addiction On The I-95 – Two Years On
Spread The Viralist

Drug overdose is now the main cause of death for Americans under the age of 50, they are more likely to die from a drug overdose than a car accident or gun.

More than 70,000 people died from overdoses last year as opioids and illegal fentanyl – which is up to 50 times stronger than heroin – unleashed the worst public health crisis in American history.

Two years ago, BBC News reported on the growing problem of opioid addiction in the US, now we return to find out what happened to the people we met along our journey down the notorious I-95, the interstate that runs from Florida to Maine, and to see what has become of their struggle against addiction.

If you, or someone you know, have been affected by addiction, the following organisations may be able to help.: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1kS7QTDB16PWkywhsXJLzxz/information-and-support-addiction-alcohol-drugs-and-gambling

  1. It always amazed me how somebody can show so much disrespect for their God-given body and health while there are people out there dying of a terminal illness who'd do anything to spend a second more with a loved one. I dont even drink alcohol nor eat processed food because of how grateful I am every day that God gave me something that so many nowdays take for granted. Most people would say "but I don't take my health for granted", but their actions speak otherwise. It's really sad that so many are so undisciplined that they have to be lying on a deathbed dying of e.g. lung cancer before they quit smoking.

  2. Why don't they throw them in jail? Where's the war on crime? They threw black people in jail for crack and took the fathers out of the household. Were was all of this oh say can you see then? Now that white people are having their crack epidemic nobody is going to jail. No body has issued any kind of crime bill or any other restrictions on the drug. You know why? Because fentanyl effects primarily whites and they refuse to treat them with the same behaviour as us. In fact they get their own documentary so that way we can feel sorry for them. They always talk about be responsible but they never can own their own problems. When crack was killing us you threw us away, called us crack heads but now the police are to carry narcan just for the white people who overdose. Just for you. How sweet. The cops carry guns for blacks and Narcan for whites. Not take them to jail? Wait. Where was our narcan? Their first response to us is always to harm or to capture or to be fatal but for whites they carry aid around just for you. That speaks volumes about the racism within the police force and the country when one group has a problem you lock them up and the other you sing oh say can you see like it's the end of the world. It's so bad that you have to carry an antidrug and I'm glad to see this because white people love to point fingers at other races for every little thing but look at them. Not to make fun of addiction because it is serious and horrible but this is unfair. This is what happens when you let an entire group of people do whatever they want to do without any check. The problem grows and grows because nobody is watching white people shop or following them around. Nobody tells a white person that they don't belong in my neighborhood. If this were a black problem all of the people in this video would have been taken to the nearest jail and sentenced. Their wouldn't be a documentary.

  3. Wait wait wait, That guy said the drug was killing people. The drug isn't killing people. People a killing them selves. If people start swimming out into the ocean and drown, Do we say the ocean is killing people? I grew up around drugs alcohol abuse of all sorts. I figured out what to do and not to do. Its common sense. Get a God damn life. don't do stupid shit and become a victim of your own circumstance,

  4. This is the "opioid crisis"! Illicit fentanyl. Pain patients are not like this and the fentanyl they take is prescribed and totally different. So much empathy for these addicts yet people with debilitating pain cant get medication.

  5. Y’all out here with your heroin stories, I just haven’t smoked weed for a good 2 days and I’m already losing my mind

  6. Okayyyy people 500,000 americans died in 10 years… in 8 years in syria and iraq death toll about the same…. wake up a war is being waged against us by cartels.

  7. Liking my comment might save someone life. IBOGAINE is the easiest way to get off opiates. 24 hours then boom done no withdrawls..slight withdrawls from 1 gram injected a day(tar) if your reading this and your an addict..seek ibogaine . Have someone there no sleep to watch for 24 hours to monitor your blood pressure, if your going to do it guerilla and with no nurse.

  8. 7:35 This lady looks so jammed. Hope they all make it. Jammed is actually the worst feeling in the world, trust me..shit doesn’t even make one feel “good”. Heroin is long gone. It’s all fentanyl. ALL!
    ???

  9. If anyone has a loved one they want to help get them out of the country and treat them with ibogaine that will help and stop withdrawls mostly . Might take 2 weeks to sleep though.

  10. I was on heroin since 18 to 23 wasted the best years of my life, went from smoking to injecting that was the ramp up that really took my addiction out of control. I popped my disc in my back in highschool and never knew it happened..now 2 of my discs are degenrated and both ruptured huge into the nerve canal . Thanks usc for turning me away with no treatment . Fuhhk USC .

  11. This is So sad I hope and pray that people will get better and people will realize they r here for a reason and there life does matter everyone makes mistakes in life but drugs will not make the pain go away if anything it heightens the pain I love u all and I pray u all get better my brother went to jail for heroin and my sisters were both on meth my ex couldn't stop either

  12. So why are they not locking ppl up for being addicts like they did with crack , oh I forgot, when white ppl start killing them selves it an epidemic, black ppl it’s just a throw them in jail , I have no sympathy

  13. Gov. Gavin Newsom is standing up against Big Pharma, defending Parents Rights to Choice.

It is we parents who change the diapers, teach our kids to read & write. We decide if our children will be vaccinated with toxic metals that cause autism. Fight Mandatory vaccines.

60% of the homeless are autistic.

I have spent 35 years interviewing homeless people, in the jails, on the streets.

Come with me for one day & meet the needle Zombies who live on the streets.
    They are mostly needle junkies.
How did they become needle junkies?? California has mandatory vaccines.
Babies are being raped with phalic hypodermic needles on the day they are born, just so Big Pharma can make $$ Billions. Follow the money.

Marianne Williamson stood up one say & said, "Mandatory Vaccines is draconic." She spoke the truth – to power.

The next day Big Pharma lobbyists beat Marianne Williamson into a bloody pulp.

Now she is just like all the other Big Pharma sock-puppets of the Democratic Party.

Cowards shouting at parents of autistic kids, "Vaccinate your damn kids."

  14. why in the video with the mom on the ground and the baby trying to wake her. why would you video tape and not grab the kid. stupid people.

  15. Ive used since 16/17 im now 39 this year with certain periods of clean time but I have lapsed again and i have so much to lose i just don't know what avenues to try this time, 10 detox and rehabilitation beforehand

  16. Let me guess. Now they're going to make it illegal to use. Period. Even for those of us who need it for pain.

  17. to all the people who have beaten addiction or are fightng it right now:
you are so strong, you are so loved and you are so valid. addiction doesn't mean you are a bad person. so please keep on fighting and you will get clean and stay clean. there's always people who love you. i believe in you even if i dont know you and i hope you'll find happiness in life. and if you have been clean, even for one day im so so proud of you.
i wish this made someone out there feel even a little better. stay safe ❤

  18. I threw my back out and was in hideous pain for a couple for weeks. I was terrified to go to the hospital or my doc because I did not want the prescription pain meds and end up like this.

  19. Look at all the pill heads making this comment section about why they “really need my 250mg of Opana a day” …. 10% of people you see talking that noise on the internet genuinely need their pain meds… and if you genuinely need pain meds, that is to say if you have a legitimate condition and you’re not just addicted to feeling good, doctors will provide you with the medication.
For people that are struggling with heroin addiction; stop making excuses and take your ass to the methadone clinic and give yourself a chance at a better life.

  20. praise to those who were finally able to overcome severe opiate addiction! but I can't understand how addicts just ignore or can't see how others look walking like zombies and can't think that they are causing trouble to themselves and society! Apart from stealing, where do they get money to get fentanyl ? "flood gates have opened" — if all went to recovery centers they could be helped by those caring people who want to help — why aren't dealers caught? And one has to feed opiates to just get through the day & feeling temporarily high? All this is sick! and repeat of sick, sick sick!

  21. Show the upper class, n lower', make your rounds, stop showing the ugly side of black ppl God", is exposing the devil', karma'. Is doing in coming fast on the evil ones.

  22. We r crying also for our black kids n ppl getting kill from, the law, racism, hate, innocent, nobody cares about that!!!. Next",,,

  23. Never being just black ppl do drugs, its n every race in the world of all kinds of life did it, in still doing it, black ppl it was crack" white ppl n other race was "Herion " they love to inject heroin in see the blood go back in fourth in their veins, beat in kill their mom to get it, they been doing it for centuries', You say fendynol kills what's the diff heroin kills, whites is most likely to die out of all race in use off their favorite drugs. Let's solve the black community n World killing of our ppl, from racism, We care about that to is very important, so this is a choice, ppl, your choice, deal with it,.

  24. Watching this almost six years heroin free on methadone. I've been tapering for years trying to get off but it's sllllooowwww going. Any faster and I'm sick 24/7. But I know I'll make it off. I'm 29 and I started shooting heroin at 14 in 2004. Never ever imagined I'd live this long. I have immaculate dental hygiene but the dry mouth from the methadone has destroyed my teeth. I brush floss and rinse at a minimum 3 times a day and my teeth are still crumbling away. There's a lie that methadone doesn't destroy your teeth but they admit it causes dry mouth which is terrible for your teeth. I don't know what my point is. I just don't think there's anything I could say to the kids my age when I started to keep them from using. What they need is a purpose and to feel good about themselves. That's what keeps people drug free, nothing and I mean that. Nothing other than purpose and a sense of accomplishment will keep a person clean. Just drying somebody out by throwing them in prison (I went to prison at 19) won't solve anything. We need jobs, less stigma and a thriving economy so we can follow our dreams. Without those things this epidemic isn't going anywhere. If they hadn't fought heroin there wouldn't have been a fentanyl market. Our government does everything they possibly can to make it look like they are trying to solve the problem without solving it. You can't arrest your way out of this or enforce drug laws so hard that it stops. Other nations have done things that worked but there's no money if we can't arrest every addict 10x a week.

  25. I've put myself through 3 addictions. The last one from heroin felt really good after about 2 months after quitting. Never seen my life without it. It was like my anti depressant. You had to smoke before you did anything . After around 2 months of shit I had my life back. More or less. Never want to need something again. Such a shit feeling

  26. We need more public servants like that Manchester fire chief. I have been through the ridicule of paramedics and police who seemingly don't have a heart. Just because I need help because of something I did to myself doesn't give you right to belittle and disrespect me.
