  1. Wait, I don’t understand. What if I want to shop because I want to save the animals suffering at pet stores? I’m confused …

  2. I adopted my dog. I got her when she was just 6 months old, trained her myself, and she's better than any other "purebred" dog I've come across so far. Kids living next to me buy a new pitbull or german shep every 4 or 5 months, treat it like shit and then get rid of it. Anyone dumb enough to waste money on a pup because it's supposedly "purebred", thinking it's superior, doesn't deserve to have a dog. Dogs can pick and mate for themselves, they don't need you to choose. If you allow a dog to go out and fuck, it won't look for a specific breed. And that's natural. Evolution comes after natural breeding, not selective, determined by humans. Always go for a mixed pup, it's called "naturalbred", not bastardized, not half blood, and it's the best because it ensures your dog was able to choose what's best for itself, end of story kids.

  3. You know what? i would have adopted two lovely husky sisters, but noooooo, we didn't have 6 foot fences all around our big property, and the space they were in was quite small. We checked out another shelter and met this man who said he would adopt the dogs for us, but it didn't work out. In the end we still got two dogs still, a german shep and a lab, heeler, aussie shep mix. If shelters didn't go for perfect people, we probably would have those two huskies…

  4. "Rescue?"

As soon as someone expresses interest in acquiring a pet, so many people's knee jerk reaction these days, is the passionate advice (and sometimes command) "Adopt don't shop!"

Rescue has become more than a "good deed" in the eyes of so many people. It is the only acceptable option when animals are dying in high kill shelters, and "evil" breeders (most whom are back yard breeders) keep pumping out animals for profit, and unethical pet shops keep puppy mills alive and well in this country.

But even if the above sceneio is true, I have a few questions.

What is the actual monetary value of an animal on death row… You know, a potential rescue animal? One I am supposed to "save"? One that was supposedly going to die?

26 years ago, the monetary value of such a dog at my local animal shelter was $15, and the value of such a cat was $7. Any age.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I used to visit my local shelter daily and back then people rescued animals all the time. They paid a nominal fee for a animal that technically had no more monetary value than the food it was consuming. In my opinion, that was fair. In my opinion. That is rescue.

Now, I understand that today they want to make sure the animal has it's shots and the animal is altered. That costs money. They should contract a vet at a group rate and get the lowest bid. Perhaps vets knowing they are working with rescue animals will give them a better deal.

At any rate, the cost to "rescue" an animal today is ridiculous. It starts at $100 most of the time, and I am talking cats. Dogs start closer to $200. For an animal you were going to kill? Really? And I said start at those rates. Adoption fees soar up to $600 and beyond.

Now to address the issue of demonizing breeders, pet stores, and any other option other than "rescue":

First I want to talk about reputable breeders. Reputable breeders are responsible people who test for genetic issues in their animals before breeding, give their animals the best food and healthcare, and will TAKE BACK ANY ANIMAL THEY SELL if the owner can't keep it, and rehome it themselves. They are not responsible for one single animal in a shelter. STOP BLAMING THEM.

When you "rescue" an animal, as good as you may personally feel about yourself, you have just gained a huge liability. You have an animal which 99% of the time has no genetic health testing done on it's parents, no background info at all regarding genetics, and temperament of parents, and very little history if any of previous owner or life.

Very often these animals develop serious, preventable (if the parents had tests done) debilitating illnesses such as hip dysplasia, organ failure, heart problems all sorts of stuff, that breeders actually give warranties against because they are practically sure that their animals wont develop these things, and in the extremely rare case they do, the family will be compensated in the way the warranty specifies.

You, on the other hand, have no protection, are likely to develop illnesses in your animal, and pet insurance is your only option.

You should not be telling people they can't choose a breeder if they want. Not everyone wants to sign up for the liability of a rescue animal, and furthermore, some people just want a healthy, and I REPEAT, healthy purebred dog. Stop telling them to adopt from those purebred rescues. THEY DO NOT have healthy dogs like breeders.

Finally, pet stores. I knew a small reputable pet store that ONLY got puppies from real, and reputable breeders, not puppy mills. But this innocent pet store was forced to close because of the myth that ALL pet stores are supplied by puppymills and no one would buy their puppies.

I'm tired now, but I hope someone will listen to what I am saying.

    Take care.

  5. Only reason people buy is because they are close minded and strive for the cutest puppy when there are older dogs, young dogs, amazing dogs and downright loveable ones in your shelters. Breeders are disgusting.

  6. I adopted my dog !And I think that is better that way !But I wouldnt attack someone because they paid to get a dog!Unless you get it from a petshop that probably get dogs from dog mills I dont see the problem…for exaple there are people whos dogs had babies and arent able of taking care of them…..so what if that dog happens to be a certain breed and getting it requires money ?That dog still needs a home and at thw same time fulfils a personal preference! And it still doesnt mean that the person who bought it isnt going to take good care of it!I still think that adopting is amazing but I wouldn't blame someone for wanting a specific breed that a shelter might not have !As long as its coming from a home and not a pet shop I think its 100% fine!Tell me your opinions cause I really want to know!

  7. Sometimes buying an animal could be saving a life too. I know from experience. My cat was startlingly found on craigslist; of course, we weren't looking for a cat at the time, but we realized that something wasn't right. Usually cats being sold on that website is used for snake food or something like that. So, we got in contact with the owner and decided to have a look. We were right to look, because she was living in horrible conditions. A smoke-smelling, urine covered environment, home to a very traumatized little cat. At that moment we knew we had to save her- and paid 500 dollars for a gorgeous Bengal cat. We're very lucky to have her, and she's very lucky to have us. Adopting is great, but again, buying could possibly save a life as well. : )

  8. This is PROPAGANDA perpetuated by PETA. Don't be fooled by the media. PETA promotes theft, spreading false information and false facts, and spreading slander. PETA's agenda is to END all animal ownership and pet ownership permanently, by spaying and neutering animals into extinction and wiping out responsible breeders. Retail rescue slanders responsible breeders just to get rid of the competition and make a profit. Open your eyes people, adopting IS shopping. If there is a "pet overpopulation" then why is North America importing thousands of "rescue" dogs from foreign countries to fill the shelters? Simple, supply in demand. Adoption is NOT the only option. Adopt OR shop from a reputable, responsible breeder. The choice is yours only as to what animals is right for you and your home.

  9. Lol just bought from a breeder, getting him in 5 days. Sorry not sorry. A shiba inu is my dream Dog. And I wanted a puppy. Too bad

  10. Truth is so many people still view animals as property so they only want the 'cutest' animals or the 'most well-bred' so they don't care about adoption. If you're really an animal lover, you'll adopt bc you want these animals to be happy and loved.

  11. dont shop? but what is gonna happen to the petshop dogs if you ignore them, the best thing should be campaigned is limiting the number of breeders, coz personally i hate them, mostly they are the cause of dogs' suffering. make a law about breeders.

  12. im not only adopting dog but i also take care of those street dogs that are neglected…yes…we can all make a defference…God bless those who adopt and may your blessings be full…

  13. What's wrong with buying? I shopped for my white, quad cab four wheel drive TRD Toyota Tacoma cause it's what I wanted. Same as my all black, AKC registered german shepherd. I wanted a black shepherd and that's what I got. I didn't adopt the first one I came across just like I didn't buy the first truck I came across. I got exactly what I wanted. Now I want a Belgian Malinois to go with my shepherd, guess what I'm going to do… again?

  14. Adopting a dog is the best way. People that buy dogs don't realize or are just to ignorant enough to know what the right thing to do is

  15. Adopting isnt for everyone. Maybe like an older person who lives alone, but if you want to raise the puppy yourself and have it live with you for a long time, then definitely buy! Im so glad i did, my new puppy is perfect ❤❤

  16. Sorry, I want a clean slate of a puppy, not some asshole's hand-me-down who already fucked up the dog.  I'll buy from a responsible breeder, thanks.

  17. I just agree with this video… i have adopted 3 dogs, one was 12 years old and had cardiacs problems, i don't regret to have adpoted him, just regret ha had been in my home just short time, but the adopted dogs are so incridibule, they give you so love because they know you give them a second chance… so please, don't buy a puppy in a shop or on internet, go to see dogs and cats in a sheltter, you will find a good friend and save a life
