8. Those inflatable vests used in surfing are a godsend but man, when it's inflated and your stuck inside, you can't dive down to avoid the incoming whitewater. Also, they should carry a small handheld oxygen tank that's hooked to their vest. Similar to what Baywatch lifeguards used. Small enough to give you a few minutes of air but able to carry without too much hassle.
